When given a choice between flowers or a handwritten, thought out note from my dear husband, I most definitely would choose a note. Before my husband and I were married, our relationship was all long distance - notes, e-mails, and telephone calls were what kept us together. Right after we met, the military moved my husband to Korea, then to Germany, a short time in Iraq, and then finally back home here in North Dakota. All my letters, cards, and e-mails from him are still saved in a file folder - this folder is busting at the seams. One day, I would love to put them all in a book.

The other day, I came across a product that truly spoke to my heart. My husband started grinning as soon as he heard about the product and when I had decided it had to be our Christmas present to several family members, he completely agreed. This product is called KindNotes. 

This company knows what it takes to keep a relationship strong and to always share with others your love for them. What they have done is decorated a jar or mailbox and filled it full of a month's worth of notes. Every morning, the people you love can take a note out of that jar or mailbox and read a note that either you wrote or picked from the KindNotes site.

I recently was thrilled to receive a jar of KindNotes to review. I had loved them when viewed on KindNotes site but was even more thrilled with how it looked after I opened the box. The jar was adorable with its little ribbon and cute charm hanging on the outside. You could see all the notes looking so charming and inviting inside the jar. 

It was something that you could lovingly display anywhere in your home. I wanted to open each note right there on the spot but I knew I should wait and open just one each day. There was great anticipation to see what was written just for me each morning.

This is a great way to show anyone in your family that you love them. Even your children will love this. Imagine their delight and surprise when they open their lunchbox to find a KindNote in there just for them from you. My mom did this for us kids when we were in school and we were definitely the envy of all our classmates when we showed off our special letter from my mom. It showed that she cared especially for us.

When my husband and I first got married, we were told by a "seasoned" married couple that leaving each other notes in the morning, out of the blue, was a great way to keep our romance from fizzling out. I can truly tell you, it has been a delight for me to wake up in the morning, come downstairs with my eyes still foggy and find a note from my sweetie with KIND WORDS about how he feels about me. Talk about making my day. The rest of my day goes off without a bang because it's started on such a great note!

This is not only great for adults, but talk about a way to give your kids a boost of confidence. Getting a little KIND NOTE from their mommy or daddy in their lunch bag or on their pillow before bedtime would make their day! Trust me...it really does...even if they are not old enough to read. Having someone read to them special words written just for them, about them, will immediately bring a positive response. I really don't think there is enough of this in our parenting nowadays. This could make a huge difference in our world, one kid at a time.

While we are applauding the merits of going paperless and doing things electronically (email, e-card, e-book, e-invitation, e-announcement, e-statement, e-journal...you name it!), have you ever missed the good old days when we sent and received handwritten letters? I do. I miss that personal touch that cannot be duplicated in an email. I was initially impressed by its nice look. But as I was reading through the witty notes, I was deeply moved by the time and care that had been taken to enclose these messages in the mini envelopes! It's certainly the best quality handmade notes I've ever seen.

Kind Notes are a fabulous way to let someone know you’re thinking of them. It’s a gift of 31 tiny messages you customize or write yourself.  You pick out the container, the paper, the messages (or write your own) and Kind Notes packages it all up into a beautiful gift that your recipient gets to open and enjoy for a month.  They’re the perfect gift for a parent, child, friend, etc.  Anyone you want to let know they’re special.

The Kind Notes website is adorable and so easy to use. I gave it a try just before Mother’s Day.   The available containers range from simple tin cans to more elaborate glass jars.  I love that part of the gift will continue to be used and remind the receiver of your gift.  Next it was time to pick out the filler - colored crinkle paper or tulle and then the decorative envelopes.  There are styles for every taste - from fun and sassy to sedate and classic. Kind Notes sent me a few samples of the envelopes to show they’re quality.  They’re beautiful and keepsake-quality.

Next choose the ribbon that will be used to complete your gift and whether you’d like to write your own notes or choose from the database of suggestions. Unfortunately, they charge extra to use their library of 400+ messages- this is one feature I would like to see included in the price.  The notes are printed on ivory paper (the notes are tiny!) or for a fee, you can have them handwritten.  If you’d prefer, you can also have them sent to you blank so you can fill them in.

The whole process just takes a few minutes and is pretty fun. I received one of their ready-made jars to review and it’s ADORABLE!  I did pull out a few of the messages to take a look and found they’re easily readable even though they’re tiny.

Kind Notes would make a fabulous remembrance jar for someone who’s lost a loved one. Filled with inspirational quotes or snippets from the person who’s passed would make a meaningful gift.  It could also make a great morning meditation jar.  The quality is fabulous, the presentation amazing, and the quality obvious.

Everything included was made with high quality materials. I just couldn’t get over how cute the tiny little envelopes were.

The sample that I received isn’t the only offering that they have. When the girls were younger, I would take and sneak little notes into their lunchboxes. It would always be something simple like I love you or hope you are having a great day. Now they are older and I don’t do it as often as I would like. I do still write hubby little letters and slip them where he can find them. I think it’s important to give someone an inspirational or loving thought for the day. I know it makes me smile.

I was given the opportunity to review Kind Notes. Kind Notes are little notes of love, inspiration, memories and kindness all wrapped up in to neat little envelopes.

My Kind Notes came in this adorable little tin can with Mom on the top. Being that Mother’s Day is right around the corner, it has gave me another great idea for my MIL. Anyways, I open up the tin can and see all these little notes. Now I won’t lie, I didn’t open them all because I want each day to be a different surprise. Each little envelope is about the size of a quarter. But don’t let the size fool you.

When I opened the envelope, I was shocked to see how much could be put on the little bitty notes. It contained a full quote.

I just love opening up the tin can each morning and pulling out an envelope. For a brief moment in time, everything just stops and I read what is wrote. Kind Notes was created four years ago with the idea that her then boyfriend now husband, would enjoy getting a letter every day. THE DETAILS

While this item would make a thoughtful gift for people in all sorts of situations - from soldiers returning home and spouses of those soldiers while they are deployed to people grieving a loved one or recovering from an illness - I like the idea of giving this to a new mom. The first month of motherhood is tough, and a month’s worth of daily cheer is a useful thing during that time. It would also make a great mother’s day gift, for new moms and more experienced ones.

Each of the envelopes inside the jar has a unique message, and you can customize everything from the messages to the cardstock to the jar and ribbon. There is a wide variety of options, so you can find something to suit most every personality (and gender - there are plenty of designs that are appropriate for guys as well). In addition to the level of customization they offered, I was impressed by the high quality card stock Kind Notes uses, which made opening the miniature envelopes a fun experience for a card snob like myself.

The only drawback to the item is the price: at almost $30 a jar, I would have a hard time buying this for just any occasion. However, I do think these make an excellent and more long-lasting present in lieu of flowers. The next time I am tempted to spend money on blooms I know will not last more than a week, I will buy one of these instead. Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, births, deaths, christenings - this is a perfect gift for those kinds of moments in life when, well, kind words! are really important.
